Discovery Selected for the 2017 ADI Design Index

Discovery, designed by Ernesto Gismondi, was selected for publication in the 2017 ADI Design Index,
the second of two books that contain the best design projects selected for the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2018 Award.

Discovery conveys a deep knowledge of light and its perceptive qualities. It has an unobtrusive transparent and dematerialized structure,
so thin that it’s volume is only perceived when the lamp is switched on. When turned on, light fills the central emitting surface causing the diffuser to materialize.
Its ultra-light profile houses an LED strip that injects light into a micro-engraved transparent PMMA surface.

Discovery has an essential geometry that Ernesto Gismondi describes as follows:

“In order to obtain such a thin and light ring
we applied to bicycle manufacturers,
and the result is this ultra-light aluminum profile for an almost invisible lamp.”

Discovery will compete for the Compasso d’Oro ADI 2018 Award.
